Ta koreańska produkcja, mimo utartego schematu zagrożenia czyhającego w pędzącym pociągu, stanowi niezwykłe widowisko, które wywołuje u widza całą gamę emocji. Głównym bohaterem filmu jest zapracowany biznesmen Seok-woo, który wraz z córką, Soo-an, wyrusza w podróż pociągiem. Stacją docelową jest miejscowość Busan, jednak dotarcie do niej nie będzie proste. Gdy pociąg opuszcza Seul, z całego kraju zaczynają docierać doniesienia o dziwnie zachowujących się ludziach. Okazuje się, że Koreę Południową, a także prawdopodobnie cały świat, opanowała zaraza zamieniająca ludzi w żywe trupy, zombie. Można sądzić, że pędzący pociąg to jedno z bezpieczniejszych miejsc w takiej sytuacji. Niestety, w Seulu do jednego z wagonów wsiadła zarażona osoba. Osoby niezaznajomione z azjatyckim kinem już podczas pierwszych minut seansu zderzą się z różnicą między Hollywood a grą koreańskich aktorów. Na pierwszy rzut oka wydaje się, że postacie są strasznie sztywne, a ich emocje przesadne, zupełnie jakbyśmy obserwowali improwizowaną sztukę teatralną. Na szczęście, wraz z narastającym klimatem grozy, który nie ustaje nawet na moment, możemy zacząć dostrzegać, że postacie kreowane przez aktorów są bardzo barwne i dobrze przedstawione. Podczas seansu nie trwającego nawet dwóch godzin charakter niektórych bohaterów ulegnie zmianie, dzięki czemu fabuła będzie przybierała coraz to bardziej intrygujący kierunek. Wartym wspomnienia jest także aspekt, że Seok-woo nie jest kreowany na „superbohatera” rodem z hollywoodzkich filmów, gdzie przypadkowy obywatel lub były policjant w pojedynkę ratuje samolot/pociąg/statek. „Widziałem film o zombie w pociągu i mi się podobał.” Widząc tytuł „Zombie Express” niemal każdy wyobraża sobie jedno – pociąg pełen zombie. Trudno zliczyć ile filmów o podobnej tematyce pojawiło się w kinach w ciągu ostatnich lat. Jednak pan Sang-ho Yeon sprawił, że z dumą mogę napisać, iż widziałem film o zombie w pociągu i mi się podobał. Po raz pierwszy od dawna, podczas seansu produkcji pełnometrażowej o żywych trupach, nie będziemy się nudzić próbując współczuć postaciom, które ginęłyby podejmując głupkowate decyzje. Bohaterowie Zombie Express dosłownie walczą o przetrwanie, a każdy robi to na swój sposób. Produkcja ta stara się ukazać nam, że dopiero w obliczu zagrożenia życia jesteśmy w stanie ściągnąć codzienną maskę i przedstawić światu swoje prawdziwe oblicze. Co się zaś tyczy samych zombie występujących w filmie, w popkulturze utarło się kilka typów żywych trupów. Wyróżniamy między innymi powolne bezmózgie istoty, które szwędają się bezmyślnie, oraz szybkie i zwinne bestie występujące np. w filmie World War Z. W Zombie Express ujrzymy zombie podobne do tych z produkcji z Bradem Pittem. Żywe trupy, które zagrażają bezpieczeństwu pasażerów pociągu do Busan, są bardzo żywiołowe, ale posiadają także słaby punkt, który pomoże bohaterom filmu w walce z nimi... lub nie.
